Ten minute drive from Zagreb and we are in a fertile Turopolje plain, and it takes only a half an hour to reach Posavina or Vukomericke gorice. In Vukomericke gorice one can see wooden chapels, among which is the chapel of St. George in Lijevi Stefanki a true pearl of wooden building. In autumn, the forests in Vrhovlje and Pokuplje abound in mushrooms and chestnuts, and the river Kupa offers ideal camping opportunities. The Baroque church of St. Ladislas in Pokupsko, which was severely damaged in the Homeland War, has now been almost fully reconstructed. In the centre of Kravarsko there is a church of the Holy Cross Svetoga Kriza, dating from 1874. Turopolje and Posavina landscapes and Turopoljski lug offer amazing opportunities for long walks and bicycle rides. In Orle visitors can see the interesting church of St Bartol, and in Velesevec the parish church of St. Peter the Apostle. Deep in the Turopoljski lug, very close to Lekenik, stand Vrata od krca. The fertile Turopolje plain has been ecologically preserved and that is why it is a source of natural health food. The people of Turopolje are well known for their vegetable and fruit, (especially apple, pear and strawberry) plantations.
