Olsztyn got its town charter in 1353. Back then it was called Allenstein and it was controlled by the Teutonic Knights. The town reverted to Polish hands in 1466. There are quite a few historic sights in town. The castle being the most significant one.It houses a large museum, which can be enjoyed along with galleries and performances. The City Hall and St.Jacobs Cathedral are also well worth a look.
