Hotel Gli Orzali is situated in the Tusco-Emilian Apennines, in the heart of Italy, in the district of Firenzuola (Province of Florence), around 56 km from Bologna and 50 km from Florence. The present-day hotel complex was built at a height of 540m above sea-level, surrounded by mountains exceeding 1.000 metres above sea-level. At a distance of around 1.900m, the centre of Firenzuola is within easy walking distance.
The surrounding area is especially suited for an all-out restful holiday, as well as providing the possibility for relaxing hikes, horse and mountain-bike riding, fishing and hunting. Being housed within a hunting lodge, the hotel in particular offers guided visits within the grounds, providing the possibility of witnessing and experiencing all the Apennines hoofed animals close-up in their natural habitat, from the red deer to the fallow deer, from the roe to the wild boar and even the mouflon sheep.
Hotel Gli Orzali is comprised of three buildings, originally employed as follows: a farmhouse dating back to the XVIII century with living space on the upper floors and the lower floors being set aside for stables and storage sheds; a stable and barn built in 1939 as per the date inscribed on the main facade; and finally a small building being a former pigsty, dating back to the beginning of the nineteen hundreds.
The propertys restoration and restructuring work was carried out with the complexs rural values in mind, and especially keeping a hold on the historical evidence in terms of the ratio between buildings and open land; for this reason the necessary functions were architecturally integrated using traditional local materials such as stone, brick and wood, with simple, elementary shapes, such as the lodges, porticos and stairways which emphasise and exploit the foundational substance of the existing buildings.
